June 21st: Melbourne
View from Shrine of Remembrance The weather was pretty much as expected - lot's of drizzle and even rain with sunny patches in between. That's exactly what we had been told about the Melbourne climate - four seasons in a day.

At the tourist visitor centre we got a lot of good information about what to see and do in the city. We went to see the Botanic Gardens and the Shrine of Remembrance.

Albert Park is a must - especially for Formula 1 fans of course. Speaking of sports cars - we found a car rental place that had Mazda MX5's for hire. The rate is $130 a day - good we had our own MX-5 (Miata for the Americans) back in Perth - that only cost us $500 in depreciation over a whole year and 15.000 km.

The walk around Albert Park Lake was really nice although we had to seek shelter several times. The view of the city after the sun had set was magnificent.

Flame show at Crown Casino Every hour there is a "flame show" just outside the casino. About eight 20 meter high towers start spitting fire - impressive and well worth the wait if you happen not to be there exactly on the hour.

The highlight of the day was the stand-up comedy at Club Odeon in the Crown entertainment complex (every city should have something like Crown). $10 per person including three drinks - we seriously considered to by more tickets - just for the three drinks. The stand-up's were mostly good - we had a very good time. There is a lot of stand up in Melbourne (especially on Tuesdays) and it is highly recommendable to see a show.
