August 3rd: Drysdale River to Cape Leveque |

"Why are you skipping the Kimberly's" was Klaus' first comment - another Klaus who also is a member of University Flying Club and also has flown around Australia in Grummy (funny coincident, ey').
We had visited him a couple of days before departing Perth to get some last minute hints and tips. He had studied our pre-planned route and was wondering why we didn't plan to see the north coast of the Kimberley, which was his absolute favourite part of Australia. In particular he emphazised that the horizontal waterfalls and Cape Leveque was not to be missed. So that was what we had planned for today. And he was right. This day was one of the better scenic flights on the trip. The brown-yellow cliffs lined with green mangroves, turquoise water and deep blue sky was magnificent. Unfortunately the visibility was reduced due to the many bush fires. The difference between high and low tide is up to 9 meters in this area. Therefore there is a lot of water flowing forth and back, and the horizontal waterfalls are two narrow passages that the water has to run through to level the water. Cape Leveque's airstrip is located right next to the camping area and not far from the cabins - very convenient for us. Nevertheless we were picked up and driven to our little exotic beach hut.
The sunset was miraculous - one of the best, if not the best, on this trip. We took about 40 pictures just then. To make the day perfect, dinner was a lot better than expected. We had ordered three BBQ platters that were delivered to our cabin. A big tender steak, potato and green salad, mushroom sauce,
